Alvin Kamara has a knee injury with a recovery timetable of four to six weeks and will not be available at the start of the season.

The numbers behind him are the reason it matters.

Etienne's arrival looked like depth in March. It looks like the plan in September.

New Orleans are the designated home side against Pittsburgh at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis in Week 7.

It is one of nine international games this season, a record for the league, and the only one in France.

Where Could the Market Be Wrong?

The 5-4 finish is the argument, and it is a real one. A club that changes quarterback in November and wins more than it loses afterwards has found something.

Against that, the sample is nine games, the quarterback was a rookie, and the leading rusher in franchise history is unavailable for the first month.

New Orleans are 1.70 to go over 7.5 regular season wins. The over requires at least eight wins, two more than last season’s six.

The market has taken the second half of last season at face value and ignored the first.

That is either the right read or the whole mistake, and there is not much middle ground.
